Trogir, Primošten and Šibenik along the coast
The coast road north of Split links three towns that look nothing alike: one on an island, one on a peninsula and one climbing a hill above a river mouth.

Primošten
Cathedral of St James, Šibenik
The plan
Trogir
A morning walk through the UNESCO-listed old town, before the day-trippers arrive. Coffee on the waterfront facing Čiovo.
Primošten
The old town was an island until a causeway joined it to the mainland. Stone lanes lead up to the parish church at the top, with sea on three sides.
Šibenik
The cathedral of St James was built entirely of stone, without brick or wood, and its outer wall carries a row of 71 carved heads. Behind it, steep lanes climb towards St Michael's fortress.
Good to know
Lunch is usually in Primošten or Šibenik and is paid separately. The cathedral asks for covered shoulders inside.
